$10 Million to Transition Our Workforce? That Should Do It.

Submitted by Asher Miller on July 23, 2008 - 6:16pm.

In nearby Santa Rosa, CA, Community Action Partnership (a fantastic organization I've had the fortune to collaborate with in the past) has just received a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Labor Department to train workers in the energy industry. The grant will go to expand CAP's Youthbuild program.

This grant--the only one given to an organization in California--is one of 11 projects funded, for a total of $10,000,000. For many small to mid-sized nonprofits, this is not a small chunk of change. But when you think about the massive investment required to rebuild our energy infrastructure and reskill our workforce, I'm thinking we might be missing a couple of zeros in there.

I'm sure Van Jones would agree.
