PCI was quoted in this article in the Winston-Salem Journal giving tips on how to avoid creating extra waste over the Holiday period.
From the article:
Each year we recycle our traditions into new memories. But decades of over-indulgence are catching up with the environment. Unfortunately, decorations, gifts and good eats have resulted in a whole lot of garbage, pollution and energy waste.
According to the Post Carbon Institute, Americans generate an extra 5 million tons of household waste between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. It is estimated that 2.65 billion holiday cards will be sent — enough to fill a football field 10 stories high — 38,000 miles of ribbon will be used and 30 of the 50 million Christmas trees purchased will end up in a landfill (Environmental News Network). There is also three times as much food waste as other times of the year.
