Post Carbon Fellow Zenobia Barlow was quoted in this article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the new USDA 'MyPlate' info graphic launched by Michelle Obama.
From the article:
Zenobia Barlow, executive director of the Center for Ecoliteracy, a Berkeley organization involved in improving school lunch programs, said the plate is a dramatic improvement over the food pyramid. Not too long ago the center polled sixth graders about the former symbol and found that they had a difficult time understanding what was good for them and what was bad.
"They thought fat and sugar must be good because it was at the top of the pyramid," she said. "The graphic was counterintuitive. The plate is simple and straight forward. You can comprehend it and hold it in your mind."
