Post Carbon Fellow David Orr's plans for an  energy-self-sufficient, carbon-neutral community block using learnings from  the Oberlin College.

From the article:

Oberlin College environmental sciences professor David Orr is leading a $300 million plan for the Lorain County college that would incorporate the most successfully sustainable features of the its 'Lewis Center into a "green arts district" in the center of the small town.

For starters, Orr and his team would take a 13-acre block, already owned by the college, and build or renovate a dozen buildings just north of the historic Apollo Theater. All the structures would not only process their own wastewater through natural means but also could be powered by methane gas from a nearby landfill.

That energy source could also someday provide electricity for the entire college and possibly some of the Lorain County town of 8,500 people.
