[Except] David Orr is in high demand -- and in typically high gear.

He's professor of Environmental Studies and Politics and adviser to the president of Oberlin College, but also teaches at the University of Vermont.
He has written several hundred magazine or professional journal articles and a half-dozen books on environmentalism, sustainability, green engineering and building, education and climate change.

Most recently, he played a key role over the last several years on the Presidential Climate Action Project, an advisory board to both the McCain and Obama campaigns which extended its work into the first six months of the Obama administration this year.

Orr has been credited with raising money, awareness and know-how for the Adam Joseph Lewis Environmental Studies Center at Oberlin College, a showpiece for the most cutting-edge elements of "green building" and is now working to convert an Oberlin city block into a carbon-neutral, fully-sustainable and profitable "green arts district."

His newest book, "Down to the Wire: Confronting Climate Collapse," was released by Oxford Press in September. He said the book takes the reader "from the 35,000-foot level to see the big issue of climate change -- down to Main Street, where it can be understood."
