Laying the groundwork for dialog

My hope and desire is to help stimulate an on-going discussion/periodic gathering re creating islands of sustainable community. I see consumer capitalism collapsing in on itself, destroying itself in wars and garbage. Thus I see the need for sensible people to find a different road, like that sketched in Trainer's "Thoughts on the Transition to a Sustainable Society."

I've been giving this Peak Oil thing close attention since early December, and while my books are momentarily scattered and so I can't quote relevant experts, I can say that the published evidence indicates that: 

1) The major oil companies have been avoiding telling the truth in order to keep stock values in their companies high;
