
Dr. Paul Sears has Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Natural Science and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge. After a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Chemistry Department of the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, he undertook coal and oil sand research at the Institute for Aerospace Studies, University of Toronto. He then did research on the fate of radium in uranium mine tailings and taught undergraduate courses in chemistry at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, before joining Natural Resources Canada at its CANMET Energy Research Laboratories in 1982. At CANMET, he has worked on Coal Liquefaction, Heavy Oil Upgrading and Community Energy Systems.
