Reduce Consumption : Produce Locally

CoopPower and North East Biodiesel

Submitted by don on July 29, 2005 - 1:30pm.

An exciting effort is underway in the greater Pioneer Valley in Massachusetts that will serve New England and New York. CoopPower is a membership organization which owns North East Biodiesel.

Northeast Biodiesel will break ground for their biodiesel plant in October in Grenfield MA. The coop is now looking for members so that as the financing is developed, the coop will own a majority share and keep the plant, the product, and the profits in our region.

It would be cool if similar projects got going everywhere. Finding ways to own things locally can go a long way to introduce a stabilizing influence on a community as the Peak Oil situation progresses.
