FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Global Public Media receives 2008 M. K. Hubbert Award at Energy Conference
(September 26, 2008, Sacramento, CA) Post Carbon Institute Founder and President Julian Darley accepted the 2008 M. K. Hubbert Award for his work on Global Public Media at the recent APSO-USA Peak Oil Conference in Sacramento, CA.
The award is named after Marion King Hubbert, a geoscientist who worked at the Shell research lab in Houston, Texas. He made several important contributions to geology and geophysics, most notably the Hubbert curve and Hubbert peak theory (or peak oil), with important political ramifications.
"ASPO-USA selected Global Public Media, founded by Julian Darley as one of two winners of the M. King Hubbert Excellence in Energy Education Award. Global Public Media has demonstrated a long-term commitment to educating people from all walks of life about our pending petroleum predicament and the need for broad societal change,” commented Steve Andrews, ASPO-USA co-founder and board member.
Added Steve, "For a number of years, Global Public Media's on-line site has posted important interviews with an endless array of experts and decision-makers who offer important insights into the peak oil story. Just as significant has been their focus on conveying what more community-based experts think about the critical community-scale adaptations needed in the near- and long-term. ASPO-USA wishes to honor GPM's long-standing commitment to educating all who will listen about our peak oil challenge and the looming post-peak-oil world."
“I am grateful and appreciative to ASPO-USA for recognizing the work that our team at Post Carbon Institute has put into Global Public Media,” remarked Julian Darley. “Our core mission is to get society off fossil fuels fast. The first step is education and Global Public Media provides a steady stream of up-to-date content that informs the public of our perilous energy situation.”
Post Carbon Institute, headquartered in Sebastopol, California, conducts research, develops technical tools, educates the public, and informs leaders to help communities around the world understand and respond to the challenges of fossil fuel depletion and climate change.
