Carbon: Plan for Peak

Read about our 2005 accomplishments and support our Plan for Peak!

OUR MISSION

Post Carbon Institute's mission is to assist societies in their efforts to relocalize communities and adapt to an energy constrained world.

We believe that production of oil and natural gas will peak soon, climate change is worsening, and the current global economic system is unstable and reinforces huge disparities. Our response is to promote drastically lower consumption, greater local self-reliance, and more equitable and inclusive communities.

We support:

  • An online news network called Global Public Media
  • Access to a wealth of information and analysis on energy
    issues
  • Actions, initiatives and education which build community,
boost local economies and reduce energy use

We work on a local and regional level with:

  • Community groups
  • Governments
  • Business
  • Other public and private organizations

MILESTONES ACHIEVED

We were the first organization to call attention to the emerging oil and
natural gas crisis, organizing 12 conferences in four countries in 2003 to
address the issue. This crisis is now becoming more and more evident, as witnessed by a record-breaking tropical storm season and soaring oil and natural gas prices.

In 2005, we have expanded the organization's reach in many ways:

  • Our Relocalization Network has expanded from about 5
outposts at the beginning of 2005 to 49 outposts in 8 different countries
today and continues to grow weekly.
  • Our online news website, Global Public Media, now receives
over 800,000 hits per month, more than double the traffic at this time
    last year.
  • We began the transition from being completely volunteer
    run to having paid employees.
  • We have strengthened our working relationships with
prominent peak oil experts such as Richard Heinberg and Colin Campbell.

FUTURE
NEEDS

Post Carbon Institute is looking forward to another phenomenal year in 2006. We
want to keep spreading the word about peak oil and assist even more communities
in their efforts to live locally. In addition, we have several exciting new
projects in the works. However, we need your support to finance the increased
demand for our existing programs. Our goal is to raise $400,000 by the end of
2005.

Please
join us in this important mission!
