We are meeting every first Sunday of the month at the UU Church in
Waterville, Maine on Silver Street
Last month we toured a woodlot and learned about sustainable ways of harvesting firewood and timber.
Jan. 1st we'll see a
DVD and discuss the year of post peak. Please come!

Just saw the movie Syrianna. It could make people more aware of the oil situation. It was a neat movie, anyway. I was struck by the number of vehicles in the parking lot Christmas shopping as we came out of the movie. I wonder how we can keep all this going post peak. We'll see what happens.
Well our next meetup will be on new possibly post peak year's day. With the news reporting possible rolling blackouts for New England it looks like this may really be the year we all learn to live with a lot less.
Bill Basford had a great idea for the meeting:
"If we still need a topic for next month's Peak Oil Meeting, how about
'Psychological Barriers to Energy Savings'. I'm convinced that we already
have all the technology needed to cut our energy use by about half, without
any significant changes to how we live. With bigger changes, like more
people living in town and using more public transportation, we could
probably cut our total energy use by about 80%, and still live comfortably.
But the biggest reason why this is not happening is what I call
psychological barriers to energy savings. It's not even a matter of people
not having enough information, because it's all readily available for
anyone who is willing and able to consider it. The real problem is that
most people are either unwilling, or afraid, or just plain psychologically
unable to deal with such a large problem. I think it is really just a case
of denial on a national scale."
I have a dvd we did about what we did to our house to weather the coming storm. We'll see that and talk about the psychological barriers to energy savings. Bring your thoughts!
See you at 10:45 on Sunday morning, Jan.1st at the UU Church in Waterville. Go to the meditation room upstairs.
