Ames Citizens for Clean Energy Mission (draft) :

ACCE's mission is to undertake actions that will push our city and region toward a clean energy future by raising awareness of the depletion of nonrenewable energy sources, improving energy conservation practices, promoting the development and availability of renewable energy sources, and directing public policy toward sustainability of energy use and production.

Goals (draft) :
  • Create public participation in making Ames a national leader in climate-friendly energy projects and policies
  • Promote energy education and communicate the need for change among Ames residents through local media, Internet, discussion groups, and community events.
  • Encourage local government to enact policies that would develop an energy efficient economy and improved construction codes/practices for businesses and homes.
  • Support the development of small and medium scale wind, solar and biomass energy production in central Iowa.
  • Work toward the implementation of a renewable energy standard statewide, and encourage implementation of Kyoto carbon emission goals by individuals, groups and local government.
  • Engage citizens in local projects which minimize energy waste, capture atmospheric carbon, and create local self-reliance and sustainable economic activity.
  • Cooperate with other organizations promoting compatible goals, including smart growth, sustainable development, biodiversity preservation, recycling, bicycling, soil-building agriculture, intergenerational justice and social equity.
