Reduce Consumption : Produce Locally

What to do in the Flathead?

What are the most important things that we can get started on? Sustainable: transport, homes, minds, money, food and water. How should we go about making the changes we feel are most important?

FarmHands: Connecting People with Working Lands

Currently, Farmhands is working in the Flathead Valley to strengthen the natural bond between the people who produce the food and the people who eat it. They believe a healthy society is not possible without healthy family farms and are working to protect the Flathead Valley's rich, working farmlands for future generations.

They have published their third edition of the "farm map" which identifies local farms and how to contact them. They also recently included an insert that lists businesses that buy locally grown and produced foods. Look for a map at the chamber of commerce, local coffee shops and businesses.

If you are interested in exploring community gardens, permaculture, sustainable agriculture, beekeeping, CSAs,or local food distribution please come to the sustaibility celebration in Whitefish or start a dialogue here.
