Reduce Consumption : Produce Locally

Topics to focus upon during the next gathering!!!!!

Hey It’s Peter here and I just wanted to say; Wow!! That was so very great. For those of you who could not make it our were not informed on Sunday the 14th of august a group of people materialized down near Big fork and shared some wonderful conversations that revolved around Sustainability, Community, Education, the coming energy crisis as well as many other important topics. After having such a successful gathering we have decided to get together again. Now this first time was closer to perfection than any participant thought would occur so now we have the task for our next gathering to rise to that standard. I for one would be happy if half the value from the first gathering came from the second but I also think we just might out do ourselves and come away from the second gathering with an even more optimistic view of what we can accomplish together!

Now the question becomes what do we focus upon next Sunday. Well here we are reading the question so lets hear what you all have to say.

O.K. now I just posted the question to seconds ago but.....

Well I think that Jeffery had a good idea of talking about what the groups ideas of consensus are so I second that topic. I think that Dave is going to post something about what consensus means and how to go about working to succeed in each goal that we agree upon attempting.

At first thought I was going to suggest working on coming up with a location where a community might be formed but this is a topic that on second thought I suggest we hold of on looking at. One reason is that if person (a) said lets go to bali and person (b) said your nuts I want to have a community in Creston were the top soil is 5’ thick then these two might have come up against a wall that seems insurmountable. I think we will have walls that may at first seem to be to high to get over but that upon closer examination and with more intelligent conversation those walls will dilute into a larger pool of agreed ideals and desires. When Christine said that we must recognize that from the bottom up everything is good I felt certain that she was speaking a vital truth that must not be forgotten. All of us humans function from the same components of life - Water, food, love, creation...... We are good and have so much to agree on especially when within such a like minded group such as materialized today.

I remembered what I wanted to say to Jeffery. He said that he thought it important to expose our differences and see if we can live with them our agree on some sort of compromise. I agree but wish to congeal the group together while working through any differences. One thing I think might help is if we all take the time putting down things here in a forum topic that we are fairly confident will be met with consensus within the group.
Even obvious things like “Peak Oil is going to have a major effect on economies around the globe

Some topics to think about before Sunday's meeting

Examine the values by which we determine our existence/mode of living/lifeway. (Success? Private property?)

The conflict between Ecology and Economy. What drives it?

Can we state precisely or generally what compels us to seek a change and how much?

There should be more attention in the examinations of Place.

Again....Sunday August 21 1pm until ???
1515 Holt Stage Road - about 1 mile east of the Old Steel Bridge in Kalispell. Remember to bring your own lawn chair. Hope to see you there!!

Here's an idea for Sunday:

Sunday Meeting at Gordon's
Submitted by davel on Wed, 2005-08-17 15:35.
Here's an idea for Sunday:
We could have another talking circle- no specific agenda. Everyone has an equal opportunity to speak (or not), be it new introduction, response to last week's meeting, info regarding consensus, proposal for action, reciting poetry, whatever. This I believe would be simple, egalitarian, organic, appropriate and effective.
I'm looking forward to the gathering, however it unfolds.
