FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Post Carbon Institute Announces Partnership with Transition Network US
(January 15, 2009, Sebastopol, CA) Post Carbon Institute today announced a partnership with Transition US to inspire and support communities across the United States to shift quickly away from dependence on fossil fuels.
"The enormous challenges our communities and ecosystems face as a result of peak oil and climate change require all the collaboration and coordination we can muster," said Asher Miller, Executive Director of Post Carbon Institute. "Rather than have two similar but distinct efforts to aid citizens as they prepare for a post carbon world, we are pleased to partner with the Transition movement, which has made tremendous inroads in the United States after being founded in Britain."
As part of this partnership, Post Carbon Institute will shift its focus from maintaining the Relocalization Network--the first virtual community dedicated to promoting the re-localization of food, electricity, and manufacturing production--to providing financial, operational, and strategic support to the newly formed Transition United States.
Said Richard Heinberg, Post Carbon Institute Senior Fellow, "I'm tremendously pleased to see these two vitally important organizations come together like this. I'm proud of the great work done by members of the Relocalization Network since its founding in 2003. In over 200 communities across the world, they have dedicated themselves to educating their local governments and fellow citizens to the dangers of peak oil and climate change, and have established dynamic local food, local business, transportation, and energy projects. With the vision, training, and support of the Transition movement, these communities and many others can be even more successful."
Said Pamela Gray, Transition US President and Transition Network Trustee, "We are grateful to the Post Carbon Institute for providing seed funding to enable us to further the growth of Transition in the US and we look forward to working with the Post Carbon Fellows to address the issues of climate change and fossil fuel depletion.”
Said Rob Hopkins, Founder of the Transition Town movement, " This is a wonderful opportunity. We have a huge task ahead of us in building community resilience, and all of us in the Transition Network are pleased to have such a well established and respected partner.”
