Jackson quoted in Salina Journal on reinventing activism

Post Carbon Fellow Wes Jackson’s talk at the Salina Resistance town hall meeting was reported in the Salina Journal.

On the day the United States stepped back from an international accord designed to curb greenhouse gases, the environment was mentioned by several of the speakers. Jackson said he’d been in Washington, D.C., when the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and other environmental initiatives were passed, and it seemed like an accomplishment.

“We thought we had something, but it’s ephemeral, it is fragile,” he said. He said the fundamental changes that will be required in the face of climate change in the next 10 to 50 years can’t be accomplished with the “usual tools.”
