FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Post Carbon Institute Announces New Executive Director, Senior Fellows
(Oct 10, 2008, Sebastopol, CA) Post Carbon Institute today announced the appointment of Asher Miller as Interim Executive Director, and Celine Rich and Julian Darley as Senior Fellows.
Miller was previously Director of Programs and Relocalization Network Manager for Post Carbon Institute. Celine Rich was previously Executive Director. Julian Darley, Founder, was previously President. Both Rich and Darley will remain on the Board of Directors for Post Carbon Institute.
Prior to Post Carbon Institute, Miller worked in leading roles in the nonprofit sector, most recently as founder of Climate Changers, an organization that inspires people to reduce their impact on the climate by focusing on simple and achievable actions that anyone can take.
Miller was also Youth Manager at the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County; Partnership Director at Plugged In; International Production Coordinator at Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation; a writer; and a consultant for a number of other nonprofit groups. He recently served as a member of Senator John Edwards' Cleantech / Green Business Advisory Committee.
“I am honored to become Post Carbon Institute’s Interim Executive Director. Celine and Julian have poured their heart and soul into creating this organization and I will steward it with great care,” said Asher Miller. “Our mission is to get society off fossils fuel fast and I am committed to educating and inspiring people to succeed in this momentous and urgent task.”
“I founded Global Public Media in 2001 and we incorporated Post Carbon Institute in 2003,” reflected Julian Darley, “and now it is vital that Celine and I devote more time to research, writing, and outreach. Although James Schlesinger said last year that the peakists had won and that in effect we were all Peak Oilists now, most people don’t yet know it! So in a sense, now is the time to intensify the mission of outreach and policy planning. Celine and I believe that Post Carbon Institute is well positioned with Asher Miller at the helm to take a leadership role in this heightened task of educating the public about our perilous energy predicament.”
Added Celine Rich,” We are highly confident and proud of the team we have assembled and look forward to seeing Post Carbon Institute make a wider and deeper impact in the years ahead.”
“I’m thrilled to begin working with Celine and Julian on think tank issues,” said Richard Heinberg. “The experience that they both will bring to the table as Senior Fellows will greatly enhance our ability to produce research and create policy recommendations that are desperately needed in the world today.
“Celine and Julian are true energy awareness pioneers. They understood early the seriousness of peak oil and made it their life mission to prepare the world for the inevitable decline of fossil fuel production with its extraordinary political and social ramifications” stated Debbie Cook, Post Carbon Institute Board Member. “The Board thanks them for their years of hard work and congratulates them on their appointment as Senior Fellows. We are excited to see the organization move to the next stage under the direction of Miller.”
Post Carbon Institute, headquartered in Sebastopol, California, conducts research, develops technical tools, educates the public, and informs leaders to help communities around the world understand and respond to the challenges of fossil fuel depletion and climate change.
