Julian Darley, MA, MSc, President
Julian Darley is founder and director of Post Carbon Institute and Global Public Media. He is the author of High Noon for Natural Gas: the New Energy Crisis (2004). Julian has an MSc in Environment and Social Research from University of Surrey in the UK, an MA in Journalism and Communications from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BA in Music & Russian. Julian currently lives in Sebastopol, California, USA.

Celine Rich, MA, Executive Director
Celine has been working with Post Carbon Institute since its inception in 2001. She worked for 3 years as a Research Strategist with the University of British Columbia’s Development Office. In addition, she created and led community cultural development projects in Vancouver for six years. Celine has a MA in Design for the Environment from the Chelsea College of Art and Design, UK; a BA in Fine Arts from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Canada, and a Certificate of Marketing from Kwantlen College, Canada. Celine currently lives in Sebastopol, California, USA.

Andrew Calvo, Marketing Director

Andrew Calvo brings over 19 years of event, sales, and marketing experience to his role as Director of Events for the Post Carbon Institute.

For the last eight years Andrew has produced technology events in the US and Europe for O'Reilly Media (oreilly.com)and Carsonified (carsonified.com), as well as cultural events for San Jose Jazz. Andrew also worked for 12 years in the music technology industry for leading companies such as Digidesign, A Division of Avid Technologies and Berkeley Integrated Audio Systems. Andrew is a musician who plays bass and piano, and worked his way through San Francisco State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies degree by playing jazz and bartending at the original Jazz at Pearl's nightclub in San Francisco.

Asher has worked in various capacities in the nonprofit sector, most recently as founder of Climate Changers, an organization that inspires people to reduce their impact on the climate by focusing on simple and achievable actions anyone can take. Previously, he was Youth Manager at the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County; Partnership Director at Plugged In; International Production Coordinator at Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation; a ghostwriter; and a consultant for a number of other nonprofit groups. He recently served as a member of Senator John Edwards' Cleantech / Green Business Advisory Committee. Born in the Netherlands, he's lived in Israel and across the United States.

Daniel Lerch, Post Carbon Cities Program Manager
(based in Portland, Oregon)
Daniel manages our Post Carbon Cities program, providing resources and assistance to local governments on peak oil and climate change. He is the author of Post Carbon Cities: Planning for Energy and Climate Uncertainty, the first major municipal guidebook on peak oil and global warming. Daniel has worked on urban planning issues for over twelve years in the public, private and non-profit sectors. He is also a co-founder of The City Repair Project, an award-winning non-profit organization working on community public space issues. Mr. Lerch has a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a Master of Urban Studies from Portland State University in Oregon.

Daniel has delivered presentations and workshops to elected officials, planners, and other audiences across the United States, as well as in Canada, Ireland and the UK (see past presentations).

Desiree Cesarini, Operations Manager

Desiree directs and coordinates the organizations general operations including maintaining facilities, formulating policies, and managing human resources. Prior to Post Carbon, Desiree was the Marketing Director for Travel of America, Director of Training for Academy Pacific Business and Travel College, Art Director for American Publishers. She has also worked as a Credit Analyst for GE Corporate Finance. Desiree has a BA in Computer Graphics.

Jason Arnold, Senior Software Developer
Jason Arnold has been a software developer his entire adult life (and much of his childhood!). After earning his BS Computer Science degree from San Jose State University, he spent several years as a developer in a variety of roles at two previous organizations. Jason brings about 3 years of Drupal experience and a strong software engineering background to his role at the Post Carbon Institute. On the side he specializes in website and web app development, raising his family, and sneaking off to play video games.

Kristina Vigna, Finance Manager

Kristina Vigna recently relocated to Sebastopol from Point Arena, CA were she lived for the past few years growing food, rebuilding a green/natural house, and inspiring people to think local and sustainable. While living in Point Arena, CA she was a financial consultant for a software developer and local non-profit organization. Prior to moving to the rural Mendocino coast, Kristina worked in numerous financial management roles for different organizations in the Bay Area. Kristina enjoys gardening, exercise, health conscious cooking (will splurge for good treats occasionally), alternative energy/building, sailing, and anything that is a real mental and physical challenge while using the least amount of fossil fuels possible.

Laurel Hoyt, Post Carbon Cities Program Coordinator
(based in Portland, Oregon)
Laurel provides research, website, writing and administrative support for our Post Carbon Cities program. Prior to joining Post Carbon, Laurel was the Education Coordinator of Free Geek, where she helped this collectively-managed computer recycling and computer training non-profit grow into a national model for community-based technology centers. She has a B.A. Political Science from Portland State University.

Linton Hale, Web developer
Linton's responsibilities include web design and implementation, web project management, technical planning and documentation. Linton holds an independent bachelors degree from Brown University entitled "Educational Change: Music and Computers" that combines computer science, anthropology and music. He has about 20 years experience as a database and multimedia programmer, information systems manager and director of web development. He is also a composer and musician who loves to share music in community. He lives in Sebastopol, California.

Shelby Tay, Relocalization Network Coordinator
(based in Vancouver, British Columbia)
Shelby has been working with Post Carbon Institute since 2005 coordinating the Relocalization Network program. She holds an Honours BSc. in Environmental Sciences with a concentration in ecology from the University of British Columbia, where she led a seminar course on globalization and the environment. She has also participated on the organizing committees for Vancouver's 30 Days of Sustainability, A Loving Spoonful, Global Habitat Festival and the Climate Cafes Collective, and is always looking for exciting opportunities to explore in the community. Shelby enjoys taking photos, biking around the city and spending an afternoon with a book, and is hoping to complete a permaculture certificate in the near future.
