Story

We got inspired several years ago by Crude Impact and Crude Awakening and bought the farm. Its been a work-in-progress (or de-progress- depending on how you look at it) since 2007.

We are in process of insolar-ating our 1880s house, 1940s barn and learning to make all our own fuel (ethanol) which we will use to power the tractor, equipment, provide all our electrical (via co-generation) and vehicles. We are using the David Blume method using sugar beets and searching for the equipment needed but have a solid grasp of how our future without outside sources.

Besides wind, solar and home-made fuel, we are working on a geo-solar heat system to raise our giant Austrailian redclaws up north, ( FarmingCrawfish.com), raise chickens in tractors and have grass fed dairy goats & sheep.

We are presently capable of growing 40% of our own food and plan on expanding our gardens over the next few years to grow enough food, produce enough dairy and meat to feed ourselves & about 5 other families or about 25 people on 12 of our acres (coffee, chocolate and vanilla and a few other foods not included). The additional "Back Acres" are wild Minnesotan woods and will be a work in progress over our life-time.

We encourage others to join us in our undertaking by listening to our podcasts - downloadable from our website MyBackAchers.com or email us at: MyBackContact@gmail.com We welcome comments, additional tips and sharing experiences on the path to a better life without oil spills!
