Fiber Tips
Fiber has a huge impact on your health. It helps prevent bowel cancer, reduces stomach acid, and lowers the amount of cholesterol in your blood.
Some scientists believe that certain foods contain toxins and chemicals that may induce cancerous changes in the colon lining. It is thought that speeding the passage of food through the intestine, fiber reduces the time during which these chemicals can have this effect. A diet rich in fiber will also promote healthy bowel function.
Foods rich in fiber include whole wheats brown rice, grains,
fruit and vegetables.
However if your stomach is not used to fiber, there can be a lot of bloating and excess gas.
The key here is to introduce fiber rich foods into your diet slowly. Let your digestive system get used to them. You may have to drink more water as the fiber absorbs liquid.
Two types of fiber include Soluble and Insoluble. Soluble include oats, beans, and barley. These are thought to lower blood cholesterol.
Insoluble found in whole – wheat cereals, rice, and many fruits and vegetables, promotes bowel function to ward against bowel cancer.

Here are a couple of mine, for starters:
ACTIVISM: Wondering how to respond to people who call Peak Oil a conspiracy theory, or say "They've been saying we're going to run out of oil for years!"? Direct them to National Geographic's June 2004 cover story: "The End of Cheap Oil." And I quote the leading title: "You've heard it before, but this time it's for real. We're at the beginning of the end of cheap oil." Available online, without charge at: http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0406/feature5/
CONSERVATON (AKA SKIMPING): Don't throw that butter wrapper away just yet: fold it up, stick it back in the butter drawer, and use it to grease the pan next time you want to fry an egg or make a quesadilla.
SUSTAINABILITY: Do the paper plates, styrofoam cups, and plastic utensils at your office functions drive you nuts?! Get the support of management (or your local charismatic charmer) and encourage everyone to keep a real plate, cup, glass, and utensils at their desk. If you've got enough cash (or a small enough office) hit the garage sales, pick up a nice assortment, and make little gifts of them on each desk some morning. Remind everyone to BYO at the next noshing event. Eventually, just stop supplying the disposables when food is served. Give a door prize for the coolest accoutrements! Or a booby prize for the most coffee-stained mug or otherwise disreputable dishware.
