Which Boulder Valley?

Submitted by xtraspatial on December 28, 2005 - 11:43am.

As a former resident of 13 years in the heart of the People's Republic of Boulder (Colorado), I know it seems hard to believe that there could be another Boulder Valley out there (in US or Canada). In fact, there's a lovely town in the middle of the Henry Mountains of Utah called "Boulder" and I'm sure they have a valley too. Then there's Boulder City, Nevada; not sure if there's a valley there...

In fact the two "Boulder Valley" entries in the USGS Geographic Names Information System refer to one in Montana and another in Nevada.

I had to dig into one of the blogs to find a reference to KGNU (yea!) to realize this is Boulder Valley, CO.

I was considering naming our outpost (Sustainable Saratoga Springs) simply "Sustainable Saratoga," until I recalled passing thru Saratoga, CA just south of Palo Alto, CA. I thus added the "Springs" to remove ambiguity. Shelby also added the "(NY)" to the group to further limit geographic confusion. Thanks, Shelby, since there are four other Populated Places in the USA with that title!

Please consider adding the "(CO)" to your outpost to help others find you.

Without Geography, you're nowhere!
Peace
Jim Zack, Sustainable Saratoga Springs (NY)

Hi All,
Thanks Jim for bringing that up. As the Relocalization Network continues to grow, it will become more and more important to be as clear as possible when noting locations. I started adding specific locations in brackets after the group names listed in Relocalize.net, but stopped as I felt I was barging in on Site Managers! So, please do add your specific location in brackets after your group title.

We're currently working with Mack and Raymond, our programmers, to make improvements to the site navigation and layout. These changes will be made over the next couple months. Your feedback is appreciated! You can send me an email at shelby@postcarbon.org

One of the things we are working on is making the Relocalization Network searchable (in terms of location and specific projects eg. car coops) and adding a column for the location. This way people who come across the site can easily find out more about where certain projects are being carried out and who to get in touch with.

cheers,
shelby
