In 2023, Post Carbon Institute marked its 20th anniversary. We’ve had some wins, some losses, and we’ve learned a lot of lessons. Paradoxically, the world has changed too much and too little over that same period of time.
This report highlights some of the many products we’ve created over the last two decades—dozens of books and reports, thousands of articles, hundreds of in-person and online events, art campaigns, an online course, podcasts, and our website, resilience.org. These diverse projects helped tens of millions of people better understand the systemic nature of the challenges human society faced and inspired a great many to build personal and community resilience in response.
For an organization like PCI — focused on challenging widely-held beliefs, helping people contend with complex, emotionally challenging realities, and shifting behaviors in a world rushing pell-mell in the wrong direction — our impact can be difficult to quantify. Frankly, it can also be hard to see wins when our collective environmental and social challenges only grow. And yet the many, many personal stories we’ve heard and the projects we’ve seen arise show that we are having a real, tangible influence. That continued impact has only been possible thanks to the generous community of donors who have kept this humble, scrappy organization going. To them, we remain deeply grateful.
