Rees in Vancouver Observer on coal hearing

May 6, 2013

Post Carbon Fellow Bill Rees call "re-examine our whole energy and economic development policy based on energy" was reported in this article in the Vancouver Observer.

From the article:

A renowned UBC climate change scientist says a full public hearing into increased coal exports from Vancouver is far too little if BC is to be a leader in the battle against global climate change.

“A public hearing into a single development isn’t to my mind adequate or sufficient, but if it’s all we can get away with, it’s better than nothing,” UBC Professor emeritus Bill Rees said.

“I think the discussion should go far beyond that. We have a long history in Canada of public hearings and ignored reports. So it may be the only policy available given our political climate. But the point I’m trying to make is, they (gov’t.) really needs to take a deep breath and re-examine our whole energy and economic development policy based on energy. “
