The residents of Los Angeles and other areas in California have been experiencing more than their fair share, with recent flooding and mudslides, on top of significant drought, water shortages and wildfires.

On Saturday, January 21 on Zoom, we’ll discuss the key drivers behind these conditions and the forward-thinking solutions being implemented by community leaders in Los Angeles.

Keynote speaker Richard Heinberg of the Post Carbon Institute will explain ‘overshoot’ and why it will limit the ability of technology to deal with the climate crisis. Tania Roa will represent Bio4Climate by connecting the dots on how ecological destruction is at the source of many of these climate impacts. She will also show us how restoring nature and biodiversity is one of the most powerful pathways to stabilizing the climate and cooling the planet. Philip Bogdonoff of Bio4Climate and the Ecosystems Study Group gets real with how all of this impacts our food supply.

You’ll also be able to connect directly with Los Angeles trailblazers (below) in our breakout discussions to learn how they are pioneering new ways of living together, from growing food to greening schoolyards, and from building urban eco-villages to restoring nature by caring for the land using the practices of our indigenous ancestors. You’ll also find out how to connect further with community leaders in L.A. so that you can continue to learn more, build skills, and help out with a project to strengthen resilience in our communities – see Part 2 below.
