Heinberg said that he wrote “Snake Oil” in 2013 to “alert folks to the fact that not only are there severe environmental problems with “fracking” — but also that “the American people are being subjected to half-truths and exaggerations that are distorting energy policy in favor of the oil and gas industry, and foreclosing options that would otherwise give us a much more sustainable and realistic energy future.”
