Politicians, clergy, educators, business, and environmentalists all talk about alternative fuels, and conservation. But if the population of this planet is increasing by about 77,000,000 people every 12 months shouldn't we be addressing the demand side of energy, water, and food, consumption by addressing this also ??? Yet not word is said about it. That means that the entire death toll of the Indonesian Tusnami was all made up in population replacement in 28.4 HOURS. Just over one day.
Also, There is a movement, (although very small), to reintroduce the concept of The Village. A small population that neither expands or contracts and contains people have have trades, crafts and skills that can vurtually sustain itself surrounded by a belt of farmland to raise crops. All points withing the village are at most 10 mintues walking distance from people's homes. This is not a commune, planned, or "eco" communtity. People have cottage industries and work for their own profit. Everyone would have enough yard to grow a garden. This is a model that sustained itself without energy and cars for thousands of years and I personally believe is the only one that will work in the long run. All attempts to retain "most" of what has been created since WWII is only fantasy that will not work over time. Like an alcoholic or smoker that tries to "taper off". It simply will not work. And getting to the solution will be Draconian.
